As a manufacturer of building automation systems, Qbus was brought in by Daan De Volder Architects to transform a 90s home into a smarter and more energy-efficient residence. Working together with installer Geert Van Der Aa, the client’s expectations were fully met.
From a 90s Villa to a Smart Home
For a residential renovation commissioned by Daan De Volder Architects, Qbus was called in to lower the energy bill without compromising on comfort.
The homeowners instantly fell in love with this 1990s villa. The property had great potential and, considering its construction year (1996), it was quite innovative for its time. But how do you turn a 30-year-old house into a future-proof, energy-efficient home tailored to the needs of its residents?

The goal of every Qbus installation is to reduce energy consumption without sacrificing comfort. Qbus achieves this by, for example, only turning on heating or lighting in spaces that are currently occupied or will be soon, or by aligning energy consumption with energy production.
In this villa, the assignment was to intelligently control and integrate various technologies (lighting, heating, alarm systems) within one overarching system: Qbus Control. This included the coordination of two different heating systems, which can be controlled separately by zone. Lighting fixtures were equipped with various dimming technologies to create the right ambiance for every moment. Installer Geert Van Der Aa not only fulfilled the client’s requests but also added extra comfort, simplicity, and energy efficiency.
With Qbus, users can define how extensive they want their system to be and which functions matter most to them—ranging from smart energy management to lighting, blinds, and HVAC control. Qbus enables all available technologies to work together seamlessly.
