Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do you read an existing configuration?

This is a completely different procedure depending on the type of controller.

    • For the CTD controllers this goes as follows:

In the SMIII via "File" or "Utilities / Setup / SD card", click on "Recover QDB from SD".

After confirmation you choose the name and location where the file should be saved. The zipped QDB file is then read from the SD card of the CTD and saved. With a positive answer to the question "Unzip and open restored QDB?", All data will then be immediately available. If the data you were still working on was not sent or saved, you will first receive a notification to do so.

    • For a CTL controller follow the following procedure:

Because this controller does not yet have a large memory, only limited data can be recovered. Ao the names are abbreviated to 12 characters and serial numbers are not stored anywhere.

The first step is therefore to type in ALL serial numbers via SMII via "File / Modules". These 6-digit serial numbers can be found on every module (DIN rail, switch, detector, etc.). For the SWC0x switches, an extra option was provided to have them send their serial number via “Search for modules”.

When you then click on the "down arrow", you can read all this limited information.

  • Always use the latest software for configuration.

It is always recommended to use the most recent version. This version supports the newest modules and resolves all known bugs.

If, for example, you enter a serial number and the correct module information does not appear, you are likely not working with the most recent software.

A newer version will always be able to open the older files (.QDB) without data loss.

The latest version of the System Manager software, along with the user manual and version history, can be found in the knowledge center.

Technical info for installers

  • Function Description

The Qbus Dali Sensor is a passive infrared (PIR) motion detector, and it connects directly to the Qbus-DALI bus. This sensor can only be used as a motion sensor.

The QDSEN has a detection range of 8 meters in diameter for motion detection, and 4 meters in diameter for presence detection at a mounting height of 2.5 meters.

The configuration of the QDSEN is done via the DALI Setup configuration of a Qbus Dali Master. When assigning the DALI addresses, the connected QDSEN sensors appear as inputs. The sensor occupies only one DALI address but takes up to 8mA peak power on the DALI bus. A bistable output can be linked to the DALI address of the QDSEN. The fixed extension time of 6 seconds after motion detection can be extended in the properties of the linked Qbus bistable output.

The sensor is only compatible with Qbus DALI Interfaces or Qbus DALI Masters. Check the compatibility in the technical datasheet of the respective master.

General

  • Safety regulations

Read the complete manual before installing the module and activating the system.

     ATTENTION

    • The module must be installed, started, and maintained by a certified electrical installer in accordance with the applicable legal regulations of the country.
    • The module must be connected to the DALI bus, not to the Qbus bus or mains power supply!
    • QDSEN/HB draws 8mA of power from the DALI bus. It consumes as much DALI power as 4 luminaires! (e.g., 60 luminaires + 1 sensor = 64)
    • The module must not be opened. The warranty is void if the module is opened!

Installation and wiring

  • Installation

Connect the QDSEN/HB to the DALI bus.

    Built-in with a drill diameter of 64mm

Surface installation with supplied mounting box

The QDSEN/HB is intended for ceiling installation, with the following considerations:

    • Avoid direct sunlight on the sensor
    • Do not install the sensor within 1 meter of lighting, heating, cooling, or ventilation devices
    • Do not install the sensor on an unstable or moving surface.
  • Power supply

The QDSEN is powered via the DALI bus

Detection zones

  • Detection zone

At a mounting height of 15 meters, a diameter of 40 meters is detected. The maximum installation height is 20 meters.

The QDSEN/HB has 4 alignment markers indicating the position of the 4 PIR sensors beneath the lens. Use these markers to align the sensor with the aisles to ensure optimal detection.

  • Masking

Two masking shields are supplied with the QDSEN/HB. These allow the detection pattern of the QDSEN/HB to be precisely adjusted.

NOTE: Configure and check the operation of the QDSEN/HB via the Qbus System Manager before attaching the masking shields. The masking shields may hinder the proper functioning of the light sensor and the PIR detectors – check the proper operation of the detectors after attaching the masking shields, and adjust the parameters in the programming if necessary.

The masking shields can be used to achieve either a narrow or a round detection pattern.

    Narrow detection pattern:

Align the cut mask shields with the alignment markings on the sensor.

The marking shields can be cut on different lines. Depending on the chosen line, only a certain percentage of the standard detection percentage remains:

    Line number Remaining % detection

    1

    45%

    2

    32%

    3

    22%

    4

    11%

For example, if the masking shields were removed on line 2, and the detector is mounted at a height of 6 meters, a detection pattern remains of:

    • 16m (standard at 6m height, see above) x 32% = 5.1 meters for “walk across”;
    • 12m (standard at 6m height, see above) x 32% = 3.8 meters for “walk towards”.

    Round detection pattern:

The marking shields can be cut to different diameters. Depending on the chosen diameter, only a certain percentage of the standard detection rate remains:

    Line number Remaining % detection

    1

    89%

    2

    63%

    3

    45%

    4

    32%

    5

    22%

For example, if the masking shields were cut off on line 3 and the detector is mounted at a height of 15 meters, a detection pattern remains of:

    • 40m (standard at 15m height, see above) x 45% = 18 meters for “walk across”;
    • 30m (standard at 15m height, see above) x 45% = 13.5 meters for “walk towards”.
