Frequently Asked Questions
-
How do you read an existing configuration?
This is a completely different procedure depending on the type of controller.
- For the CTD controllers this goes as follows:
In the SMIII via "File" or "Utilities / Setup / SD card", click on "Recover QDB from SD".
After confirmation you choose the name and location where the file should be saved. The zipped QDB file is then read from the SD card of the CTD and saved. With a positive answer to the question "Unzip and open restored QDB?", All data will then be immediately available. If the data you were still working on was not sent or saved, you will first receive a notification to do so.
- For a CTL controller follow the following procedure:
Because this controller does not yet have a large memory, only limited data can be recovered. Ao the names are abbreviated to 12 characters and serial numbers are not stored anywhere.
The first step is therefore to type in ALL serial numbers via SMII via "File / Modules". These 6-digit serial numbers can be found on every module (DIN rail, switch, detector, etc.). For the SWC0x switches, an extra option was provided to have them send their serial number via “Search for modules”.
When you then click on the "down arrow", you can read all this limited information.
-
Always use the latest software for configuration.
It is always recommended to use the most recent version. This version supports the newest modules and resolves all known bugs.
If, for example, you enter a serial number and the correct module information does not appear, you are likely not working with the most recent software.
A newer version will always be able to open the older files (.QDB) without data loss.
The latest version of the System Manager software, along with the user manual and version history, can be found in the knowledge center.

Function description
The relay module has no specific function. The module can handle all switching functions: monostable (e.g., a doorbell), bistable (on/off), timer, interval, etc. For controlling shutters/blinds/awnings (anything with a motor), use a decentralized ROL01 module or the DIN-rail module REL08, ROL01PSA, ROL02P, or ROL04PSA! In case of heavy inductive loads (fluorescent lamp transformers) with large capacity or bipolar applications, contactors must be added. The relay module will then energize the coil of the auxiliary relay or contactor.
The maximum cable length between the REL02 inputs and the contacts connected to them is 20 meters. At the input contacts, addresses with their own mode independent of the function of the relay contacts can be defined via the Qbus software. For the type of input contact, the following settings can be selected:
- Push button = when a push button is connected to the input (is normally open, only activates a status when the push button is briefly pressed, e.g., a doorbell).
- Normally open = contact that is open when not active.
- Normally closed = contact that is closed when not active.
- Switch = when a switch (on-off) is connected to the input.
Each module has a unique serial number (6 digits). Based on this serial number, the module can be programmed via the Qbus software.
All programming is stored in the module in non-volatile memory. If the module is restarted after a power interruption, the outputs will return to their last position.
The power supply for the contacts must be fused with a maximum 8A fuse.

Safety Instructions
Read the full manual before installing the module and activating the system.
WARNING
- The module must be installed, started, and maintained by a certified electrical installer in accordance with the applicable legal regulations of the country.
- Never connect AC or DC power to a potential-free input of a REL02. This will damage the input module.
- The contacts can also be in a closed state without a bus, as the relays switch bistable. Exceptionally, the contacts can thus be closed, as they are factory tested.
Installation and wiring
-
Installation
When installing a REL02, we recommend provisioning two installation boxes: one for the installation of the REL02 and connection with the circuits, and the other for connecting the inputs (push buttons). This will improve installation ease.
-
Power Supply
The REL02 is powered via the bus.
-
Load
Both relay outputs are equipped with screw connectors. When the relay contacts are used for switching a consumer, it is important to secure the power supply with an automatic 6A circuit breaker or protect it with a glass fuse.
If the consumer to be switched has a high inrush or cut-off current, or if the resistive power exceeds 8A, the relay contact must be used to control a contactor, which can switch the required power.
-
Inputs
Screw connectors are also provided for the inputs. The cable connecting the potential-free contacts to the inputs must not exceed 20 meters in length.
-
BUS connection
It is recommended to use the Qbus cable or any other cable with a minimum of 2 conductors of 1mm² as the bus cable. The green shielded EIB cable can also be used if the conductors are paired to achieve a minimum cross-section of 2 x 1mm².

Aansluitschema
Each modules has an unique serial number. By this number the System Manager recognizes the modules.
This is completely explained in our knowledge center.
The REL02 has 2 normally open contacts, on which max. 8 A and 230 V (cosϕ=1) can be connected. These are independently working contacts, each of which can be assigned a separate function by means of the system manager.
When you have entered the serial number in the modules window, the following window will appear.
Besides assigning two relay outputs, you can also read the 2 potential-free inputs. These are configurable on the left-hand side. These can be two inputs totally independent of the relay outputs.
These are the same types of inputs as described for the INPxx
