Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do you read an existing configuration?

This is a completely different procedure depending on the type of controller.

    • For the CTD controllers this goes as follows:

In the SMIII via "File" or "Utilities / Setup / SD card", click on "Recover QDB from SD".

After confirmation you choose the name and location where the file should be saved. The zipped QDB file is then read from the SD card of the CTD and saved. With a positive answer to the question "Unzip and open restored QDB?", All data will then be immediately available. If the data you were still working on was not sent or saved, you will first receive a notification to do so.

    • For a CTL controller follow the following procedure:

Because this controller does not yet have a large memory, only limited data can be recovered. Ao the names are abbreviated to 12 characters and serial numbers are not stored anywhere.

The first step is therefore to type in ALL serial numbers via SMII via "File / Modules". These 6-digit serial numbers can be found on every module (DIN rail, switch, detector, etc.). For the SWC0x switches, an extra option was provided to have them send their serial number via “Search for modules”.

When you then click on the "down arrow", you can read all this limited information.

  • Always use the latest software for configuration.

It is always recommended to use the most recent version. This version supports the newest modules and resolves all known bugs.

If, for example, you enter a serial number and the correct module information does not appear, you are likely not working with the most recent software.

A newer version will always be able to open the older files (.QDB) without data loss.

The latest version of the System Manager software, along with the user manual and version history, can be found in the knowledge center.

Operations via Qbus Control

  • Meter
    Meters

A Meter displays the status of a universal address.
With a Qbus controller, you have the ability to read a 0-10V signal. There are a lot of devices on the market that convert some measurement value into this type of signal. In this way, you can monitor the status of this device in Qbus Control. Some useful examples:

    • The level of a water well
    • The air pressure
    • A water flow rate
    • A temperature
    • ...

Our Sen modules also use this mode, so you can view all sensors of our Sen modules in this way in Qbus Control.

Technical info for installers

  • Function description

This package is intended for use with a Qbus system with CTD (Qbus Controller). The input module INA02 in this package is combined with the Qbus 4-20mA liquid level meter to detect water or fuel levels between 5cm and 300cm. The INA02 is equipped with 2 analog inputs for sensors with a 0-10V or 4-20mA output signal. The measured values can be converted to a 0-100% value (dimmer mode), thermostat mode (temperature sensors), or when other granular data is needed, the universal mode can also be applied.

There are packages with one sensor and packages with two sensors. One INA02 is included in each package.

The INA02 is an interface that connects the Qbus bus to various sensors and has a unique serial number to be entered during configuration in the SystemManager III configuration software. All programmed data is stored internally in a permanent memory.

General

  • Safety regulations

Read the full manual before installing the module and activating the system.

     WARNING

    • The module must be installed, started, and maintained by a certified electrical installer in accordance with the country's legal regulations.
    • The module must be connected to the DALI bus, not to the Qbus bus or mains power!
    • The module must not be opened. The warranty is void if the module is opened!

Installation and wiring

  • Installation INA02

Mount the device in a dry location. When used in humid environments or outdoors, it must be mounted in a waterproof junction box. In any case, the module must be protected against condensation and water.

  • Installation of the sensor

The sensor is mounted vertically, with or without an aid, in the tank and submerged in the liquid (max 300cm liquid height) and will indicate the tank's fill level based on the measured pressure. The sensor comes with a cable featuring a PUR jacket with a length of 5 meters. The PUR jacket is resistant to numerous chemicals, oils, lubricants, and corrosive substances, making it particularly suitable for use in greasy and chemical environments.

    1 LVL sensor waterput

The sensor is powered with a standard 24Vdc power supply (not included).

The voltage from the external 24Vdc power supply is connected to the red wire (Vcc+) of the sensor. The 0V of the 24Vdc power supply is connected to input terminal C of the INA02. The green wire (Si+) of the sensor provides a 4-20mA signal current to the input of the INA02. In this way, the sensor and the INA02 are essentially connected in series to the external power supply. You need to connect grounding to the yellow wire (Shield) of the sensor (equipotential with fuel tank!)

If the sensor cable needs to be extended, the connection must be appropriately shielded. Use a shielded cable such as LIYCY or PYCYM. Always ensure the built-in air duct remains unobstructed.

  • External sensor 0-10V or 4-20mA

Most 0-10V / 4-20mA sensors work perfectly with a very low safety voltage of 24Vdc. Almost all sensors are designed to operate with voltages ranging between approximately 9Vdc and 36Vdc. Select a power supply according to the required power for the sensor to be used. You can find this information in the technical datasheet of the respective sensor. Usually, the LEDPWS/24.015 suffices for such sensors in combination with an INA02.

For sensors where there is a choice to apply 4-20mA or 0-10V, it is preferable to choose 4-20mA. Devices such as motors, relays, and power supplies can induce voltages on signal lines and thus affect the 0-10V sensor signal. Also, a 0-10V signal is sensitive to voltage drop caused by wire resistance. On the other hand, a 4-20mA or 0-20mA signal offers increased immunity to both electrical interference and signal loss over long cables. An additional advantage of the 4-20mA signal is the inherent detection of fault conditions. Since the 4-20mA signal, even at the lowest value, is still active when a sensor sends a minimum or "zero" position, the sensor still sends a signal of 4mA. A value of 0mA means there is an issue with the sensor. In a 0-10V sensor, zero volts can mean a zero position, or it can mean the sensor is no longer working.

0-10V system: Given that the sensors in our packages operate via 4-20mA, the 0-10V system is not further discussed here. See the product page of the INA02 for more information.

  • Power supply

The voltage of the external 24Vdc power supply is connected to the red wire (Vcc+) of the sensor. The 0V of the 24Vdc power supply is connected to input terminal C of the INA02. The green wire (Si+) of the sensor provides a 4-20mA current signal to the input of the INA02. Thus, the sensor and the INA02 are effectively connected in series to the external power supply. The yellow wire (Shield) of the sensor must be connected to ground (equipotential with the fuel tank!)

  • Bus connection

It is recommended to use the Qbus cable or any other cable with a minimum of 2 conductors of 1mm² as the bus cable. The green shielded EIB cable can also be used if the conductors are paired to achieve a minimum cross-section of 2 x 1mm².

  • Inputs

Remove approximately 7mm of insulation from the cable and insert it into the clamp. Both solid and flexible cables between 0.22 – 1mm² can be used.

  • Liquid level meter

The Qbus liquid level sensor is mounted vertically and can determine the liquid level through pressure measurement. The sensor thus indicates how deep it is submerged in the liquid. The sensor is suitable for water, oil, or diesel. The sensor is not suitable for heavily polluted liquids. The sensor head includes small openings to allow the liquid into the pressure chamber for measurement. An air channel in the connection cable compensates for air pressure. Never block this air channel to prevent damage.

If you want to protect the electrical connections with gel or resin, ensure the enclosed air conduit remains unblocked. It must not be sealed under any circumstances.
