Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do you read an existing configuration?

This is a completely different procedure depending on the type of controller.

    • For the CTD controllers this goes as follows:

In the SMIII via "File" or "Utilities / Setup / SD card", click on "Recover QDB from SD".

After confirmation you choose the name and location where the file should be saved. The zipped QDB file is then read from the SD card of the CTD and saved. With a positive answer to the question "Unzip and open restored QDB?", All data will then be immediately available. If the data you were still working on was not sent or saved, you will first receive a notification to do so.

    • For a CTL controller follow the following procedure:

Because this controller does not yet have a large memory, only limited data can be recovered. Ao the names are abbreviated to 12 characters and serial numbers are not stored anywhere.

The first step is therefore to type in ALL serial numbers via SMII via "File / Modules". These 6-digit serial numbers can be found on every module (DIN rail, switch, detector, etc.). For the SWC0x switches, an extra option was provided to have them send their serial number via “Search for modules”.

When you then click on the "down arrow", you can read all this limited information.

  • Always use the latest software for configuration.

It is always recommended to use the most recent version. This version supports the newest modules and resolves all known bugs.

If, for example, you enter a serial number and the correct module information does not appear, you are likely not working with the most recent software.

A newer version will always be able to open the older files (.QDB) without data loss.

The latest version of the System Manager software, along with the user manual and version history, can be found in the knowledge center.

Technical info for installers

  • Function description

The Tastu® switches are made of glass, and operation is done by touching the touch surfaces. These switches are “fingerprint-proof”: a special coating on the glass ensures that no fingerprints are visible on the glass.

The 2-button Smart Tastu® Switches conceal a handy second page. When both touch surfaces of the 2-button switch are touched simultaneously, a second page becomes visible where again 2 are available. As long as the switch is on the second page, the LEDs will blink (and may have a different color; all this can be set via the Qbus configuration software) – after 4 seconds without operation, the switch automatically returns to the first page.

The Smart Tastu® switches are equipped with a bus connector (no polarity). The bus connected to the bus connector provides the Tastu® with power supply and control.

One touch surface can control 1 output, 2 scenes (short and long press), or up to 16 scenes through sequences.

Each switch has a unique serial number through which the switch can be programmed. Using the Qbus configuration software (System Manager), an output or a scene can be assigned to a button. If the same output is assigned to different buttons on the same switch, these buttons will operate as if connected in parallel. If the same output is assigned to buttons on different switches, they will operate as if connected in a cross-switching arrangement.

The switch can also provide interactive feedback about a specific event occurring. When an alarm is activated, both the function of the button and the color of the LED can temporarily change. For example: the LEDs can blink red and all buttons become inoperable in case of a break-in alarm, the LEDs blink when the doorbell rings, etc.

Installation and wiring

  • Installation

Install a flush-mounted box (using screws) in the wall. (Installation with claws is possible but claws are not provided with the Tastu®). Screw the provided metal frame onto the flush-mounted box, ensuring the top is level. Connect the supplied bus cable to the back of the Tastu® (make sure the serial number on the back of the Tastu® is horizontal and readable – it must be placed in the frame this way). The four connection pins on the back of the Tastu® can be pushed into the corresponding slots of the metal frame. Secure the Tastu® in the metal frame by gently pushing the switch into place.

  • Power supply

The SWC02/GX is powered via the bus

  • Bus connection

It is recommended to use the Qbus cable or any other cable with a minimum of 2 conductors of 1mm² as the bus cable. The green shielded EIB cable can also be used if the conductors are paired to achieve a minimum cross-section of 2 x 1mm².

Each modules has an unique serial number. By this number the System Manager recognizes the modules.

After entering the serial number the correct module type has to be selected (SWC01/G, SWC02/G, SWC02T/G, SWC04/G or SWC04T/G)

This is completely explained in our knowledge center.

  • Basic settings

The switch is essentially the user interface of the system. As with a conventional switch, its operation is very simple.
Each switch can perform 4 + 4, so a maximum of 8 operations. These operations are simple toggles (ON/OFF), dimming, scene recall, central commands, and anything the system can handle.

(PS.: This is also limited to 8 for the SWC06/YNB variants. An intelligent switch with 5 keys on the first page can use an additional 3 keys on the second page, and one with 6 keys on the first page can use an additional 2 keys on the second page.)

To program a switch, follow this procedure:

When you have entered the serial number of a switch as mentionedin our knowledge center, you will see the following screen appear:

Qbus System Manager III Manual Update 04 2025 pdf image 300

It is important that you set the correct type for the Tastu switches. In the drop-down list you can choose from SWC01/G, SWC02/G, SWC04/G or, if equipped with a temperature sensor, SWC02T/G or SWC04T/G

The screen above is the programming screen of a switch, showing the 4 commands for the switch. These commands are placed so that the top left field (Key 1) corresponds to the top left of the switch when you are in front of the switch, etc.

Remark: You can verify that the position of the switch is correct by making sure that the serial number on the back of the switch is legible (not upside down).

To program the switch, click the drop-down box next to the first key; there you can select I/O’s that you have already created, or create a new I/O. Look at our knowledge center for creating I/O’s.

In the drop-down box below the I/O selection window, you can select the mode of the new I/O you want to create. If you have selected an existing I/O, the mode will already be indicated in that box. Look at our knowledge center for a description of the various I/O types you can select.

As you can see on the screen below, for each key you can choose the color of the standby LED (off color), as well as the color for the operating state (on color), or even disable all colors completely, with the option above each color.

It is recommended to use different colors for different I/O’s - e.g. blue for on/off, yellow for dimmers, green for scenes etc. This will make your system easier to use.

Qbus System Manager III Manual Update 04 2025 pdf image 305

The UP/DOWN and TEST keys on each key next to the I/O allow you to verify that the selected I/O is operational and that it is indeed the one we want to illuminate on the key in question for this particular switch.

The properties option takes you to the I/O properties for this key. see Properties for more details.

As mentioned earlier, these switches have the capacity for 4+4 operations. The other 4 operations can be found on page 2, in the upper part of the window. When you go to this page, an identical screen is displayed with the four keys. The configuration method is exactly the same.

Qbus System Manager III Manual Update 04 2025 pdf image 306

    ATTENTION!!:
Switching between the pages is done by pressing 2 keys simultaneously. If you are using BTicino switches: Press the two upper or lower buttons of the switch simultaneously. If you use switches from Niko or the glass switches (Tastu): press the two keys on the left side or the two keys on the right side of the switch. Once this is done, the 4 keys on the 2nd page will be activated. The selection of the 2nd page takes 5 seconds, then the switch returns to the first page. You may want to use the second page of a switch for I/O’s that you do not activate regularly (e.g. shutters).

  • Additional settings

With this option the following screen appears.

Qbus System Manager III Manual Update 04 2025 pdf image 308
    • Standard colors for this SWC0x:

This option allows you to set the standby and operating colors for all LEDs on pages 1 and 2.

If you click on “Use these colors as default”, the chosen colors will now be used as default. So all switches set to - Default - will use these new colors.

Clicking "Make this default for ALL SWC0x" will set these colors as default AND will also be assigned to all switches under this project.

If you want a different standard colour for each kind of I/O, the option “Colours / Mode” can be checked.
In next screen you can set the default colour/page or a specific colour for I/O’s of type On/Off, Dimmer, Shutter, Other or Scene. When data is sent to the switches, default colours will be sent depending on these settings.

    • Low light
With this option the brightness of the LEDs at the OFF position can be adjusted by moving the bar left/right (position 2-10 is recommended).

    • With the “Short Flash on Page 2” option, when you use the 2nd page of the switch commands, the LEDs will flash to indicate that you are on page 2.

    • The option “TH status visible on LEDs” will reduce the brightness of the LED of the thermostat I/O when the requested temperature has been reached.

Finally, you will be given the opportunity to select the colors of your choice and use them for the LEDs.

  • Alarms

Qbus has an option to send warnings when certain situations occur.

An 'Alarm' can blink the leds, block the inputs, change color or intensity of the leds on intelligent switches.

    SWC Alarm NL

An SWC can proces up to 8 alarms. They are shown in the list on the left side. In the list on the right side you can see all available alarms.

When an alarm is activated, the intelligent switch wil executed the settings as setup in 'Properties'.

One alarm can execute different actions on multiple intelligent switches.

The default settings of an alarm and an explanation of all alarm functions can be found in our knowledge center.
