At Theo Boons in Arendonk, dozens of company vehicles and visitors’ cars are charged every day. Theo Boons is a certified Class 8 installation company specialising in the design, construction and maintenance of HVAC systems for large-scale residential, commercial and industrial projects.
In addition to charging the vehicles, the warehouse must also continue to operate without the risk of power cuts or costly peak loads. With eight dual charging points, providing a total of 16 charging points, on a single site, this is no easy feat. Thanks to the Luqas Charging Hub by Qbus, it has become a charging hub with smartly managed infrastructure: safe, efficient and future-proof.
Central Measurement, Dynamic Distribution
The installation at Theo Boons has been technically well-thought-out. The total site consumption is continuously measured from the main distribution board. Next, the Luqas Charging HUB ensures that the remaining power is smartly distributed across the sixteen charging points. During peak moments, each vehicle is automatically allocated less power, ensuring the grid is never overloaded.
Actually, this is a classic example of where our technology makes a difference," explains Nico Tack of Qbus. "We measure centrally, distribute dynamically, and factor in priorities. This keeps business operations stable while still allowing all vehicles to charge, just a little slower during busy moments.
The numbers do not lie. Without technical control, things would go terribly wrong here. Nico Tack of Qbus: "On paper, the sixteen charging stations together could demand more than 300 kW. However, only 166 kW is available at the main connection, and that power is, of course, also used by the company itself."
Priorities and Flexibility
An important part of the installation is the ability to prioritize charging stations. After all, not everyone has the same needs. "The company manager who sits in the office all day has plenty of time to charge," notes Nico Tack of Qbus. "But a sales representative who needs to hit the road quickly will temporarily receive more power. The site manager can easily set this up or even manually overrule it via the Qbus app."
Visitors can also be accommodated flexibly. For instance, a charging point for guests can be limited to 5 kW. This is sufficient for a short charging session without burdening the rest of the network.
Filip Van Echelpoel (Willemsen Technieken), the installer who helped realize the project, is enthusiastic about this flexibility.
We have been working with Qbus for HVAC controls for years. When charging plazas came into the picture, it made sense to use their energy management system as well. It is reliable, easy to integrate, and as an installer, you always have support. The Qbus team is genuinely involved, and you notice that in every detail.
Luqas Charging HUB: A Charging Plaza That Grows With You
The installation was deliberately set up to be scalable. If more charging stations are added in the future, the Luqas Charging HUB can easily be expanded without overhauling the entire system. "That is exactly the strength of our approach," says Nico Tack of Qbus. "You do not have to oversize. You start with what you need today and grow step by step, without worrying about capacity or compatibility."
For the wholesale plumbing supplier Theo Boons, this means they are ready for the electrification of their entire fleet without having to upgrade their electrical infrastructure. At Boons, they are highly satisfied with the result.
Reliability was crucial for us," says installer Van Echelpoel. "We want everyone to be able to charge without the business grinding to a halt. With the Luqas Charging HUB by Qbus, we now have a system that handles this flawlessly, and that we can manage ourselves.
