The SENMax is a bus-controlled and powered all-in-one sensor with motion and light detection, as well as CO2, humidity, and temperature measurement. This makes the sensor highly versatile for use in a wide range of applications. Think of large commercial and residential projects such as doctor's offices or schools where CO2 measurements are required. This sensor is available in both built-in and surface-mounted versions.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do you read an existing configuration?

    This is a completely different procedure depending on the type of controller.

    • For the CTD controllers this goes as follows:

    In the SMIII via "File" or "Utilities / Setup / SD card", click on "Recover QDB from SD".

    After confirmation you choose the name and location where the file should be saved. The zipped QDB file is then read from the SD card of the CTD and saved. With a positive answer to the question "Unzip and open restored QDB?", All data will then be immediately available. If the data you were still working on was not sent or saved, you will first receive a notification to do so.

     

    • For a CTL controller follow the following procedure:

    Because this controller does not yet have a large memory, only limited data can be recovered. Ao the names are abbreviated to 12 characters and serial numbers are not stored anywhere.

    The first step is therefore to type in ALL serial numbers via SMII via "File / Modules". These 6-digit serial numbers can be found on every module (DIN rail, switch, detector, etc.). For the SWC0x switches, an extra option was provided to have them send their serial number via “Search for modules”.

    When you then click on the "down arrow", you can read all this limited information.

  • Always use the latest software for configuration.

    It is always recommended to use the most recent version. This version supports the newest modules and resolves all known bugs.

    If, for example, you enter a serial number and the correct module information does not appear, you are likely not working with the most recent software.

    A newer version will always be able to open the older files (.QDB) without data loss.

  • Function description

    The SENMax is a discrete flat white round multifunctional sensor incorporating 5 sensors within a compact unit. SENMax detects motion, light intensity (lux), humidity (RH%), CO2 (ppm), and temperature (°C). This makes the sensor highly versatile. Air quality is measured through small openings on the surface. To create a healthy indoor climate and achieve energy-efficient ventilation and heating, smart-controlled ventilation and heating are essential. The SENMax is suitable for applications in both HVAC and lighting control, as well as other applications related to the available sensors.

    The product is suitable for indoor ceiling installation. This sensor can be directly connected to the Qbus two-wire bus via the included flexible connection cable. Configuration is done through System Manager III. 

     

    The SENMax, like every Qbus module, has a unique serial number, which is entered during configuration in the System Manager III software. All programmed data remains internally stored in permanent memory. This module can receive firmware updates via the Qbus bus. 

     

    The sensor can control different I/Os based on the 5 distinct sensor values:

    • Temperature: range from -10°C to +60°C. Creating an HVAC mode or thermostat mode is not required for this feature.
    • Motion: Sensitivity has two levels. There is an adjustable threshold for the size of motion to activate the I/O via a “First trigger.” To keep the I/O on, a lower volume of motion is adjustable with a “Hold-trigger.” Once the motion ceases, a follow-up time can be set between 2 seconds and 127 minutes. After this follow-up time, the linked I/O is turned off.  
      Through a scan function, you can visually test the current motion detection. Once motion detection falls below the yellow line (hold), the follow-up time begins.
    • Lux: Threshold >= or <= adjustable between 0 and 3000lux
    • CO2: Threshold >= or <= adjustable between 400-2000ppm
    • RH%: Threshold >= or <= adjustable between 0%-95%

    The controllable I/O can be of the Bistable or Dimmer type. The sensor can thus directly control a dimmer address based on lux measurement and motion detection. Additionally, you can use a night function where the dimmed light circuit activates at a lower intensity. This day clock function can be activated via clock times, logic, or manual operation. 

     

    A blue indicator LED is provided to display motion detection and/or darkness.

  • Safety regulations

    Read the full manual before installing and activating the module.

    ATTENTION

    • The module must be installed, started, and maintained by a certified electrical installer in accordance with the applicable legal regulations of the country.
    • Before working on the SENMax, the bus power must be turned off.
    • Never connect external voltages (e.g., 230Vac) to the Qbus bus! This will cause irreversible damage to the modules.
    • Keep out of reach of children.
    • The module must not be opened. The warranty is void if the module is opened!

Installation and wiring

  • Installation

    Provide a round opening of 40mm for the built-in version. Connect the supplied cable to the bus cable. Then push the connections deep enough, so the sensor has enough free space. Next, without applying great force, insert the sensor into a 40mm opening. Do not press on the sensor surface. Consider the orientation of the barbs to place the detection field in the desired position.

    For the Stand-Alone version, first mount the base with cable routing, then connect and click the sensor onto the base.

  • Power supply

    The module is powered via the bus.

  • BUS connection

    It is recommended to use the Qbus cable or any other cable with a minimum of 2 conductors of 1mm² as the bus cable. The green shielded EIB cable can also be used if the conductors are paired to achieve a minimum cross-section of 2 x 1mm².

Each modules has an unique serial number. By this number the System Manager recognizes the modules.

In addition to the same functionality as the SENMoLi, the SENMax also measures temperature, air quality, relative humidity and dew point.

 

The SENMax can switch up to a maximum of 8 I/O on and off.

The additional values of temperature, CO2 and relative humidity can be set as additional parameters at the triggers.

These can also be used without setting an I/O at HVAC or TH.
